Tribal Land Jurisdiction

Much of Apache County is Navajo Nation land. Crimes on tribal land fall under federal or tribal jurisdiction rather than county courts. If you are looking for records related to incidents on the reservation, the county may not have them.

Tribal court records are separate from Arizona state courts. Federal cases go through the U.S. District Court. Only crimes in the non-tribal portions of Apache County are handled by the county sheriff and courts.

Note: Contact the Navajo Nation courts or federal courts if your records search involves tribal land.
